'In 2015, Aardman’s internationally-acclaimed character Shaun the Sheep will appear in two ewe-nique arts trails! Over 100 giant sculptures of Shaun the Sheep created by artists, celebrities and designers will be placed in iconic locations and beautiful green spaces across London and Bristol.
Next year, Shaun in the City will be appearing in London in spring and flocking to Bristol in summer, before both flocks go to auction to raise money for sick children in hospitals across the UK.
Shaun in the City is brought to you by the team that created the award-winning ‘Gromit Unleashed’ which saw Aardman’s loveable canine sidekick Gromit raise £2.3 million for Bristol Children’s Hospital.'
(Shaun in the City, 2014)
After the success of 'Gromit Unleashed' and the diverse range of designs, the new project of 'Shaun in the City' seems a very interesting and fun way of designing which lead to the completion of 3 various sculpture concepts to be entered in to the competition.
I have always loved Wallace and Gromit which happened to be the first role of Shaun in 'A Close Shave'. Since then, the character has progressed in to its own children's TV programme meaning a whole variety of generations will be familiar with the face.
Entering this competition is a way of expanding my creative skills and showing artistic diversity through a different design project compared to my usual works. The idea that a sculpture I have designed could be turned into reality and admired as a british tourist attraction within city locations is an extremely motivating thought, as well as the fact money will be raised for children's hospitals within the UK which I would be proud to be a part of.
Due to competition rules, the work cannot be shown on social media accounts or websites until they have made a decision so the designs will be available to view here on 16th September. Anyone can enter the competition and the deadline for the applications is 5th September 2014.
